Sonerila - asymmetric (egg-shaped)

Sonerila is the genus from Melastomaceae family that contains small, generally perennial plants which are perfect for terrariums. They mostly inhabits shady locations of tropical and subtropical regions of Asia. Many species are very colourful and a few are iridescent.

Asymmetric, egg-shaped Sonerila have a very distinctive look with their large, curved leaves. Several rare and sought-after species belong to this group. They are believed to be more difficult to cultivate, but it is not true. However, they grow a bit slower than stemmed Sonerila.
