Description

Columnea purpureovittata is a very ornamental plant from the big family of Gesneriaceae. Gesneriads are mostly furry & hairy plants with distinct, often showy flowers. Some species combine these features with really unusual and beautiful leaves, making them great additions to terrariums / vivariums.

GROWING CONDITIONS for Columnea purpureovittata:

  • Light: moderate to high
  • Humidity: high (around 80% or higher), but prone to melting in case of too much water condensation and air stagnation
  • Watering: intermediate (do not let the soil dry out, but avoid sogging for a longer period of time).
  • Soil: acidic with good drainage (Sphagnum moss with perlite and peat or similar)
  • Fertilizing: medium to high
